As Private Eye’s Ian Hislop accepted the lifetime achievement award, the fire alarm went off. Everyone was forced to troop outside into the chill of Piccadilly where editors of some of Britain’s most glamorous magazines were handed shimmering silver survival blankets as if they’d run the London Marathon. It was 40 minutes before we were allowed back. But it was worth the wait. After being nominated for more awards than any other magazine, Radio Times won two prizes.
